DC Calling...

Well Hello again.. Happy New Year and all that jazz. It’s funny, i get the idea of something to write, work it out in my head while I’m working on something else.. and then it falls off the face of the earth and never gets put up here. Rinse Repeat. < sigh >. So, how’s it going?

Me, I’m in DC.. still. It’s HOT. Not like Vegas hot, but it’s getting near 70 tomorrow! In the beginning of the year. WFT.com?!?!?! I came back here for this trip thinking I might get some nice snow, come cold weather, a chance to chill out (literally) and enjoy walking around the mall without getting warm and humid. To hell to that idea I guess.

The trip so far has been busy. I’ve spent a lot of time reviewing our server setups, fixing broken systems, repairing mail systems and generally trying to push things back to how they used to be. It seems that since I left things have declined, projects stopped half way, documentation stopped, training stopped.. bleh. So, we setup a new Team Lead, restores some sense of ‘who’s doing what’ and began to reorganize. I’ve got a week left to train some new people in how our systems here work and tweak on this new spam tool they picked up (Barracuda). Me, I liked Spam Assassin and I thought it worked well, but they didn’t upgrade it until it was too late (as in too many people got to much spam) and then they picked up this appliance, didn’t test it and then stuck it up as the front MX records. Great plan! It’s not a bad product, but nearly as easy to manage, from a techie level, as SA. Oh well.

So, once that’s done I’ll head back to Europe to relax again. It’s funny, I like having stores open late, but don’t like the crowds and rude people. I like having other food choices, but I kind of miss the simple food I had back home. Watching sports has been nice, news not so much but commercials have been damn funny. I did spend the first week catching up with an old friend, enjoying some meals together and wondering around DC. It was fun, it made me remember why I like this town. There is so much to see and do and such crazy history. It’s fantastic.

In regards to Christmas.. I spent some time up in Jersey with some family. It was good so see my Aunt, Uncle and cousins.. family is always good. And of course mom sent me a nice gift.. Yeah baby. I’m looking forward to playing with that when I get back.

Otherwise, things are pretty much par for the course. I’m alive, relatively happy, healthy, working at a nice job that I enjoy and getting paid enough to provide a nice life style. There’s really not much more you can ask for, right? Maybe some nice companionship, but all good things in time Not a bad way to start a new year if you ask me.

Till next time..
