I hate it when I do something stupid on a computer. Shit. I sold my MacMini yesterday to a friend who just arrived in Rotterdam and I had decided using the money to upgrade my MBP to 2 Gig of ram. go up to a 120 Gig drive and get a cooler for when it’s running on the desk. So, doing the smart thing I am wiping the drives with random a few times.. then zeroing them out. Well about half way through the first wipe I remembered that OSX keeps it’s mail store NOT in the Documents folder but in the ~/Library folder. SIGH. I tried to stop the wipe and see if I could recover the old mail. No go. What did I loose? All my email from 1994 through now. Damn damn damn.
I’m going to try and see if I have a backup sitting on some drive somewhere, but I am not keeping my hopes up.
Lesson learned? Stay with Gmail and use IMAP instead of POP.
SHIT!
