Welcome to the next episode.. (Hold up! Wait....)

Things will continue to change as I add things, change things and try to make it easier for my failing brain to organize it’s thoughts. But maybe this one won’t get as poluted as before. And yes, I do plan on trying to import the old entries and comments in, I am just waiting for an update to the blog plugin to change how it works with dates. Until then, if you want to find old things, look here. Otherwise, enjoy the show...

Catching up, Part I - The Car

First off, Happy Thanksgiving! Seeing that I have a few days off I figured I might take some time to catch up with recent events.. probably sorted around various topics. This one, obviously, involves the car.

Myspace.. who would have thought

Yes.. I’m Still Alive (and I have not had any cake). It’s been a few months.. lots going on, but I just wanted to take the time to say that MySpace has proven itself worth using. A close friend from time past, who isn’t really a computer person was looking for me and happened to come across the myspace page. It was a very pleasant surprise.

For all the trash talking I do about myspace, how it’s the devil, a bad idea and all that, I’ve just seen the first really good use for it. Facebook is another possibility, but really, how many sites/pages/profiles can someone have?

That’s it for now.. I’ll provide some quick updates soon. PEACE!

Linux and the CAC card

So, one of the guys at the office is looking at using Linux for our business center at an upcoming convention. “Cool idea” I say. Today he asked about being able to use the CACs to access AKO. “Good question” I say. Turns out, it’s not much of a problem at all. This Blog has some posts about what drivers to compile and in what order along with some tips on getting the normal Army SCR-331 to work with the drivers. Very cool. So I set it up and was able to log into a few CAC required sites with no problem. It was fantastic. The only problem now is that some of these damn European Army sites code only for IE and when you try to bring it up in Firefox all you get is a pretty blank page. Bastards.

It is nice that other people at the local office and at HQ are working with linux, giving it a try. It’s a good trend.

Oh yeah.. here's a Gentoo link discussing the CAC setup also.

Did you know..

The dutch use a different type of connector for their plumbing? In the states, when you do PVC piping, you tend to glue a pipe to a joint, or you use a piece that has threads on both sides and you use a coupling in the middle. Stays secure, no problems, lasts long time. Not the same in Holland (and maybe other parts of the EU.. never looked at their plumbing). They use one side with threads and the other side has a sleeve that pushes up against a plastic ring and a rubber bushing type piece. so, if the coupling isn’t tight, and the sleeve and bushing move out, the pipe can come right out.. or get loose or allow water to leak. Yup, that’s what happened. The downstairs neighbor told me I had a leak, I look.. wet joint. Call the contractor, he comes and fixes it in 5 minutes. I guess I need to make sure the joints stay tight. Odd system.. very very odd.

Groovy groovy jazzy funky..

I wanted to take a quick few minutes and point out that Norah Jones puts on a great show! Sunday I headed over to the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam to check out her show on her Not Too Late tour. What a great show. The theater is really nice, medium size, good seating and great sound. Norah sounded fantastic and put on an excellent show, mixing up some new tracks with new mixes of old tracks. It really really was enjoyable.. I’d catch her show again given the chance.

Before the show I was at the Pathe and watched the latest Harry Potter flick and visited Media Market. Yeah for more CDs. I didn’t take any pictures.. so there’s nothing there, but I did just order an Olympus E-510.. NICE. I’m looking forward to getting that soon and doing some fun photo shots.
